BASICS
Full Name: Susan Rae Bones
Name Meaning: Susan, which means “lily”, was named after her father's grandmother. She was also named after her father's other grandmother, Rae, which means “ewe”.
Age: 18
Birthday: August 23, 1980
Astrological Sign: Virgo
Astrological Significance: Hufflepuff Virgos are incredibly hard workers and bright, if quiet, students. They excel at any magical arts related to domestic life or healing. They must be watched carefully to ensure that they do not over stress their systems by performing too much work; these wizards have a very hard time learning the meaning of the word "no," and are thus easily taken advantage of for their work ethic. Let other people do the leading and the decision making; they are content to serve.
House: Hufflpuff
Bloodline: Half-blood. The Bones family has remained pure-blood throughout the generations. Of course, there is the odd relative who went off to marry a muggle, but the person was never looked down upon. Susan's father was one of those people. Susan's mother is a muggle and comes from a straight line of muggles.

Place of Birth: Susan was born in her mother's room in Chelmsford, Essex. Her maternal grandfather was adamant that a new member of the family must be born within the walls of the baby's home, surrounded by other members of the family (outside the room, of course).

PERSONALITY
Susan tries to be a Hufflepuff through and through. She takes loyalty seriously, and no matter what her friends do, or what they might say, she still loves them, and she will side with them, even if she doesn't agree. She is a sweet person who is just trying to survive in life. She has fun when she can, even though her definition of fun may be different than other peoples'. She doesn't drink, nor engage in random shag sessions. She reads Shakespeare, and plans her future instead. Her passions are her piano and the Appleby Arrows. Each year for her birthday since she was four, Susan has received season tickets to watch the Arrows play. Her father made sure to get her the best seats available, with jerseys of her favourite players.

For most of Susan's school career, she has remained rather nameless with people outside of her house, and that suits her just fine. She tends to stick to the background, letting her much more vocal friends be the centers of attention. In her fifth year, she was terrified that she was going to be made Prefect, and she couldn't have been happier for Hannah when she received the position, instead.

Since the war happened, Susan has become more clingy of the people she loves, and less accepting of new people.

Above all other titles, Susan is an idealist. Good will always triumph over evil, and if she looks at the world in a positive light, then everything will end up okay.

BACKGROUND
Susan is a mixture of different nationalities. She is Spanish, Portuguese, French, Irish, and English. Susan relates more to her Spanish ancestry than anything else, though. Her family on her mother's side is loud, fun, and loving. Her family has a complex network of sons and daughters of her great-aunts and uncles. Susan knows them all by name, where they live, and when their birthdays are. Her abuelo (grandfather), Jaime Lorca, was the oldest child of five, while her abuela (grandmother), Modesta, shared the middle position of six. When Susan's mum, Maria was 2, Modesta and Jaime packed up their five children and moved from Spain to England when Jaime's job was transferred. The family moved to Harlow, Essex in 1964, and there, the two remaining Lorca children were born. Jaime was the breadwinner of the family, working hard, and always increasing his knowledge in order to find a better job. When the youngest child was born, the oldest twin sons were ten. During this time, Jaime was working two jobs, while Modesta was raising the family and doing odd jobs for richer families. Above all else, the Lorca family valued education. Their children grew up in a “homework first, play later” household. After Jaime found a comfortably paid job, he was able to spend more time at home, and with his children. Jaime also became a bigger influence with his children's education. If he felt like his children weren't learning as much as they should, he would supply them with more reading material. The move was good for the children, and for Jaime, but Modesta acted as if they hadn't moved at all. Even though her husband and children all knew English, and could speak it fluently, Modesta stubbornly refused to learn. She wanted to keep as much of her heritage as possible. Even when most of her children had grown up and moved away, she still refused to learn English.

When most of the Lorca children had left the house and started their own lives, they took the important values their parents had taught them. Even when Vito (the fourth child) went out to see the world, he eventually came back to settle a few miles away from his parents. All the other children stayed close to their parents. Almost every child was on the right path for the beginning of their lives, except for Maria.

Maria inherited her father's kindness, and her mother's soft heart, unfortunately she didn't inherit their stubbornness or unchangeable beliefs. The seventeen-year-old was the perfect target for thirty-one-year-old Alfred Bones. By chance he happened to come into the cafe she was working at. She had a cute face, and he was taken in by the way she rolled her “r”s. Each day after that first meeting, he came to the cafe in hopes that she was working. After a month, he asked her out, and she fell fast and hard for him. On the day after she turned 18, they were married. This was the happiest time of Maria's life, and the worst time of Alfred's. A few days after their wedding, Maria was given a crash course in wizarding life. Of course strange things had been happening when Alfred was around, but Maria had no idea that he was a wizard. Maria took the information fairly well, considering the circumstances. She didn't care what her husband was, as she only cared about how much she loved him. She was even okay with the odd creature called a “house elf” walking around her brother-in-law's house. What she wasn't okay with, was being brought into wizarding life in the midst of a war. William and Sandra Bones had already been murdered by Death Eaters two years before. Even though Amelia Bones was their eldest child, and Alfred was the oldest boy, the family home went to Edgar and his wife, as they had a greater need for the house. Their family was rapidly expanding with three small children, Mackenzie (five), Nathan (two), and baby William. With his inheritance, Alfred purchased a modest two bedroom house for his new wife. Since the money he had received from his parents was substantial, Alfred convinced Maria to quit her job, and to familiarize herself with a few wizarding history texts. Happy to please her husband, Maria accepted the books gladly, and the first few months of their marriage passed fairly comfortably. In the third month of their marriage, Maria and Alfred were both ecstatic to learn that Maria was pregnant. Her pregnancy went smoothly, and her siblings and parents often came by for visits and to see how she was doing.

With the war gaining momentum, and his foolish brother being a member of the Order of the Phoenix, Alfred knew it was inevitable that something would happen. On July 29, 1980, something did happen. Edgar and his family was murdered by Death Eaters just two weeks before little William's first birthday. The house was left to Alfred and his soon-to-be family, and on August 23, 1980, almost a month after the death of most of the Bones family, Susan Rae Bones was born. From the very hour of her birth, Alfred tried to distance himself from his daughter, while the rest of the family fell in love with the small redhead. Even though Voldemort had been destroyed, Alfred still feared the Death Eaters left. He locked himself in the study, refusing to see Susan. It was easier to distance himself, than fall in love with the baby, and then lose her to Death Eaters. The house-elf, Snorky, helped Maria when diaper changes were needed, and of course the odd relative who decided to stop by also helped. For the first year of Susan's life, she had been held by her father for a total of two hours. Over the year, Maria tried repeatedly to talk with Alfred about his behaviour, but he ignored her attempts. The deaths of his brother's family turned him into a very different man. Instead of being kind and fun-loving, as he had been, he spent his time drinking, and wondering why he had even married. He didn't even loved his wife, anymore. She was a thorn in his side. What he wanted was a wife who came from a Pureblood family, and throw large, extravagant parties. He wanted a family who wouldn't draw attention to their faults. Maria moved out of their bedroom into her own room with Susan's crib in the room with her. On Susan's second birthday, Amelia temporarily moved into the Bones' home to talk sense into Alfred. She had always been a firm, bossy influence on Alfred, and her two week visit turned into a nine year residence. Someone had to keep her brother on a short leash, and his wife wasn't doing it. As Susan grew older, Alfred took a more active role in her life. Susan wasn't allowed to attend Muggle primary school, so instead she was taught by the tutor her father paid for. He made certain that the tutor was French, so by the time she was eleven and off to Hogwarts, Susan could fluently speak French, Spanish, and English.

Nothing of importance really happened to Susan during Hogwarts. She studied hard, practiced the piano in her dorm room by humming out each note as she hit the imaginary keys, and generally tried to keep her head down from the goings-on at Hogwarts. During her Second Year when Justin was attacked by the basilisk, she visited him during every opportunity she had. Logically she knew that he couldn't hear her, but she still did her schoolwork by his side. With her aunt Amelia in a position of authority at the Ministry, Susan was more aware of changes than the average student. When Umbridge came into power, her aunt's advice was to lie low and wait it out. However, Susan gained knowledge of a secret group that might be forming, and she became a member of the DA, wanting (above all else) to pass her OWLs. She happened to learn several handy spells which aided her as she took her (small) part in the Battle of Hogwarts.

In April of 1996, Maria finally filed for divorce from Alfred, causing her to become excommunicated from her Catholic church. Alfred let her go, without a word to convince her to stay. He offered to buy her a new house, but Maria refused, wanting to do it on her own. She took out a loan, purchased a tiny one bedroom flat about a mile from Kings Cross Station, and completely severed ties from Alfred...and his new wife Camilla. Alfred had always been charming when he wanted to be. He had met the lovely 20 year old Camilla in Flourish and Blotts. Even though he was twenty-seven years older than she was, she found something in him to love (his money). When Maria discovered his affair, Camilla was already six months pregnant. Amelia had quite a bit to say to her brother, but for once, he told her to mind her own business. Camilla moved into the house that had been Maria's for 15 years, and completely took over. In May she gave birth to a little girl, and Susan accepted the baby as her sister with mixed emotions. Susan lived with her mum, and saw her sister, Madison a few times a week. Maria never spoke of Alfred and never gave any indication that he had ever lived. For the first time in years, she had to work to live. Susan's pride prevented her from asking her father for any money, knowing it would upset Maria. Instead Susan did what she could to earn any extra money, including selling her expensive and loved handbags.

Maria and Susan were able to get by, even though Susan had to trade her yearly shopping month in Paris to wearing last season's clothes. Her school books were bought second hand, and thank Merlin that her robes from the year before still fit.

During the summer of Susan's seventh year, Susan begged her mother to leave the country. Maria refused to leave, saying she needed to be there for her daughter. Susan begged and pleaded for her mother to leave, and she finally did move to Spain when the Muggle-born proclamation came out. Maria realised she was putting her daughter into even more danger, and sent Susan to live with her father, while Maria moved to Spain to stay with relatives. However, what she didn't know, was that Susan was sent right back to Muggle London, after her father refused to house her. In an attempt to save his job, and having full knowledge about what was happening in the Ministry, Alfred lied. When he was near Ministry officials who were higher up, he started a “casual” conversation, talking about how glad he was to be rid of his dumb Muggle wife and now married to Pureblood wife, who was much more like his Pureblood self. When asked about his children, he remarked about Madison, not even hinting that he had another daughter. He still cares about Susan, but he won't claim her in public.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS
Friends: Susan tries to be friends with all the Hufflepuff's in her year. She doesn't venture out of her house often, though she has befriended a few Ravenclaws.
Enemies: Besides for Death Eaters and Voldemort, Susan doesn't have any enemies (that she's aware of).
Romantic History: Since her third year, Susan has had a fierce crush on Justin Finch-Fletchley. He had always been so sweet and cute. Nothing came of the crush, though.

APPEARANCE
Hair: Susan inherited her father's red hair. Her hair is painfully straight, and if she wants it to curl, it takes many spells to get the curls to stay.
Height: On the Lorca side of her family, Susan is the tallest female in two generations at 5'5.
Weight: At 15, she was her heaviest at 114 pounds, and her weight has stayed the same.
Build: Due to her height, Susan is sometimes referred to as the “big” cousin. Also, at her birth, there was some concern that she would become a chubby child, as she weighed an impressive nine pounds, eight ounces. However, as she grew up, Susan was the same size as her other cousins had been. She doesn't obsess over her weight, but she does hate how her hips bones, and the ridges of her spine stick out.
Style: Susan's clothes often reflect her personality. She wears bright, sunny colours, except for when she is in a bad mood, in which case black is her preferred colour. She much prefers skirts and dresses over trousers, and once in a blue moon she might actually wear a pair of trousers. She always looks well put together, though her clothes may not be as fashionable as the next girl's. Susan's one weakness has always, and will always, be shoes. She ADORES shoes. Thankfully her feet haven't changed since she was twelve, so although they may be older, Susan still wears the shoes. Her collection has grown to over 300 pairs, and she makes a point of wearing each one as often as she can. Sometimes she changes mid-day JUST to put on a new pair of shoes. She doesn't think there's anything wrong with that, either.
